The Myth of the ‘Compensation Culture’

 Jun 15, 2011

A recent study referred to in the Law Society Gazette has revealed that as many as half of personal injury victims do not claim compensation for their accidents ultimately casting doubt on the prevalence of the compensation culture. Over 1200 participants engaged in the study and whilst an eye opening 39% of them had suffered some form of injury at work, only 48% had initiated a claim for compensation.

The principal reason for this appears to be that members of the public were unaware of their legal entitlement to recover the costs incurred by an accident at work, whether that be costs for the accident itself, or extra expenses that have left the individual in a worse position than they would have otherwise been in.
